Last updated: 1 June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies Proofen B.V. places on your device when you visit proofen.nl or use the Proofen dashboard, why we use them, and how you can control them.

1. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your browser or device. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, for example that you are signed in, so you do not have to re-enter it every time you navigate to a new page.

Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. Where we refer to "cookies" in this policy, we mean all of these technologies unless we say otherwise.

2. What cookies we use

We use cookies in two categories: strictly necessary and functional. We do not currently use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

2.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the website and dashboard to function. They cannot be switched off without breaking core functionality. They do not store any personally identifiable information beyond what is required to maintain your session.

Cookie namePurposeDuration
sb-access-tokenSupabase authentication: keeps you signed in to the dashboardSession (expires on sign-out)
sb-refresh-tokenSupabase session refresh: renews your session without requiring a new sign-in7 days
preview-accessRecords that you have entered the correct access passcode for the preview environment30 days
__Secure-*Security cookies set by the Next.js runtime to protect against CSRF attacksSession

These cookies are placed by Proofen and our hosting infrastructure (Vercel, Supabase). They are not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

2.2 Functional cookies

These cookies remember your preferences and settings to improve your experience.

Cookie namePurposeDuration
themeStores your colour scheme preference (light / dark) if a preference toggle is available1 year
localeStores your language or region preference1 year

2.3 Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. Vercel Analytics is a privacy-first analytics tool that does not set cookies, does not fingerprint devices, and does not track individual users across sessions. It collects aggregated, anonymous data about page views and referrers only.

Because Vercel Analytics does not set cookies or process personal data at the individual level, it does not require your consent under the ePrivacy Directive.

2.4 Cookies we do not use

We do not use:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Third-party analytics cookies that fingerprint individual users
  • Any cookie whose purpose is to build a profile of your browsing behaviour across websites

3. Legal basis

Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (Telecommunicatiewet in the Netherlands), because they are technically essential to provide a service you have explicitly requested.

Functional cookies may require consent depending on their specific implementation and whether they collect personal data. Where consent is required, we will request it via our cookie banner before placing functional cookies.

Analytics (Vercel Analytics) does not set cookies and does not require consent. It operates entirely at the edge level without any client-side identifier.

4. Your choices

4.1 Cookie banner

When you first visit proofen.nl, a cookie banner will invite you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.

4.2 Browser settings

All modern browsers allow you to refuse, delete, or be notified about cookies. The steps vary by browser:

  • Chrome:Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox:Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari:Preferences > Privacy
  • Edge:Settings > Cookies and site permissions

Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in to the dashboard and using core features of the service.

4.3 Do Not Track

Some browsers allow you to send a "Do Not Track" signal. We currently do not respond to Do Not Track signals in a differentiated way, because there is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to them.

5. Third-party cookies

Our website is hosted on Vercel's infrastructure. Vercel may set server-side cookies for routing and load balancing purposes. These cookies do not identify you personally and are not used for advertising. For details, see Vercel's privacy policy.

Our dashboard uses Supabase for authentication. The session cookies described in Section 2.1 are managed by Supabase's authentication library operating on our domain. No Supabase cookies are set on third-party domains.

We do not embed social media buttons, third-party video players, or other embeds that set cookies from external domains.

6. Changes to this policy

We will update this Cookie Policy when we add, change, or remove cookies. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We will notify you of significant changes via the cookie banner on your next visit.
